Yesterday we had reported that the 2013 Moto X (1st Gen) had started receiving Android 5.1 Lollipop update in Canada, United States and Brazil so maybe Motorola will follow the same pattern for the Moto X (2nd Gen) smartphone. Motorola’s David Schuster, Senior Director of Software Product Management, last week had confirmed that Motorola Moto X and Moto X (Gen 2) entered soak test in several markets. Adding further, Schuster had noted that “If all goes well we would expect full deployments to start next week.” Now, Motorola in a statement said that, Users can manually check for the new update by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates on their Moto X (Gen 2). The new Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Moto X (Gen 2) will bring many new features to the table apart from the usual bug fixes. After the update, you can use Moto X (2nd Gen) to block interruptions until the next alarm, alter notification volume controls while media is playing, dismiss a head-up notification and swipe it up to remove it from the screen. The update also brings a completely revamped pull-down menu for quickly selecting different Wi-Fi access points or paired Bluetooth devices. Users will be also be able to hide conditional setting tiles in case they are using features like ‘Invert Colours’ or ‘Hotspot’. Improvements in ART (Android Run Time), which will result in faster opening of apps, are also included. If the Moto X (Gen 2) with Android 5.1 aboard it gets lost or stolen, it will stay locked until you sign in with your Google account, even if someone resets it to factory settings. The bug fixes include the Chrome browser crash bug, Wi-Fi bug, Bluetooth discovery bug and also bring aboard general stability improvements to your Moto X (2nd Gen). The update is around 440MB in size and is now rolling out to all Pure Edition Moto X (2014) units. “Pure Edition” in Motorola’s parlance means “factory unlocked” – the device was launched on September 12, 2014.
