Timothy Arcuri, analyst of Cowen and Company has cited Apple’s next iPhone could include some “form of facial/gesture recognition.” The research note written by him and distributed to clients by Cowen and Company on Wednesday includes several new details about Apple’s forthcoming iPhone, which is expected to launch in September. Timothy is expecting three new models this year, and he is referring to the premium variant as ‘iPhone X’ in his note. “Other features appear to include some form of facial/gesture recognition supported by a new laser sensor and an infrared sensor mounted near the front-facing camera and, as expected, should also finally include wireless charging,” Arcuri was reported by Business Insider as saying. If this is true, the smartphone’s biggest highlight on the launch day would be the integration of a facial recognition feature, situated under the display, predicts Arcuri. The iPhone 8 will be a ‘feature-rich’ smartphone with three models” – a new 5.8-inch iPhone in addition to existing 4.7- and 5.5-inch models that will launch in late 2017. He expects the iPhone 8 will have a ‘wraparound’ OLED screen that will be designed with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor ‘under the glass and in the active display area’. Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays are thinner, more power efficient, and boast richer colors and deeper blacks than liquid crystal display (LCD) screens. Among other features, the iPhone 8 will come with an improved haptic feedback support that is expected to lift up the 3D Touch feature that is currently found on the latest iPhone model. It is also touted to be more waterproof than the current generation iPhones. Finally, Arcuri believes that the newly redesigned iPhone, which he is calling the “iPhone 10” or “iPhone X” will be “yuge” and believes it could trigger a “super cycle ” of upgraders.
