According to TechPowerUp, Allen “Splave” Golibersuch pushed the i7-7700K past 7GHz by disabling some key features like hyp threading and two out of the i7’s four cores, cranking the clock multiplier to 69x, and pushing the Vcore voltage to 2.00V. He also used liquid Nitrogen as a coolant as one can imagine the heat produced at such whopping levels.
Splave released the overclocking test results and said that the overclocked Intel Core i7-7700K performed admirably with 7022.96 MHz clock being relatively stable. For tech geeks here is what Splave used for his testing. He paired the Intel Core i7-7700K with an ASRock Z170 OC Formula motherboard. As said above, he used liquid nitrogen cooling and set the Vcore voltage at a scorching 2.00V. The chip crunched PiFast in 9.02 seconds, SuperPi 32M in 4 minutes 20.25 seconds, wPrime 32M in 2.953 seconds, and wPrime 1024M in 1 minute 33.171 seconds. Paired with an ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 STRIX OC graphics card, it scored 643,316 points in Aquamark, and 86,798 points in 3DMark 05. While overclocking is not everybody’s idea of fun, there is a dedicated community of overclockers who are raring to take a bet on the new Intel chip. It looks like we are in for some fun.
